Hydrogen Flame Monitoring System

Safety is always a preeminent priority for storing and handling Hydrogen (H2). The energy required to ignite H2 is small, so that spark of static electricity is enough to start an H2 fire. Once started, H2 flames are virtually invisible in the visible spectral range in the daytime.

I2R has developed a hydrogen flame detection imaging system, using cameras operating in the mid-wave and longwave infrared and visible spectrums. Automatic processing of the imagery enables rapid detection and location of H2 and hydrocarbon-based flames over large areas, with minimal false alarms and missed detections under diverse environmental conditions.
